The Hess Collection portfolio is comprised of Hess Collection Mount Veeder Estate wines, Hess Napa Valley wines, and Hess Select wines. Hess Collection wines, from their Mount Veeder estate vineyards, are an expression of the unique mountain climate they come from and are distinguished for their complexity, structure, and elegance. Hess Napa Valley wines come from single-vineyard sites, each handpicked for its superior climate and location. Hess Select wines are benchmark wines from their respective regions in both quality and price and are designed for immediate enjoyment. The Hess family of wineries extends to four continents. All of the Hess estate vineyards are sustainably farmed in accordance with their founder, Donald Hess’ philosophy: “Nurture the land, return what you take.”

When it comes to art, Donald Hess personally selects works of international contemporary art, creating a collection that is both thought-provoking and inspirational. The Hess Art Collection represents an extraordinary and ever-expanding look at over sixty artists and is acknowledged as one of the largest collections of its kind. The museums are open to the public and are free of charge.

Please join us Thursday, June 16, 2011 at 7 p.m. (Come early for the pre-pour!), at the Hilton Harrisburg when John Amoroso, Mid-Atlantic Regional Sales Manager for the Hess Collection Winery, presents:

  • Bodega Colome Torrontes, 2009

Flavors of roses, nectarine, and orange zest; On the palate, there is a floral entry that is delicate and soft leading to an elegant, persistent finish.

  • Hess Select Sauvignon Blanc, 2009

Flavors of lychee, lemongrass, and ruby grapefruit; The wine was fermented in stainless steel tanks and neutral, five- to six-year-old French-oak barrels. It was not allowed to go through malolactic fermentation in order to retain its crisp acidity.

  • Collection Su’Skol Chardonnay, 2007

Displays flavors of lemon and orange zest, with ripe tropical fruit flavors of pineapple and apricot, balanced by a hint of French Oak

  • Artezin Zinfandel, 2009

Red fruit fills the palate, dominated by raspberry, red cherry, and pomegranate, complemented by hints of nutmeg and rosemary. Soft, supple tannins created a firm, yet lush mouth feel.

  • Sequana Pinot Noir, Sarmento Vineyard, Santa Lucia Highlands, 2008

Fermented separately, using primarily native yeasts and aged sur lie in French barrels for 11 months; This Pinot has pretty floral and citrus aromas. Warm Asian spices accompany bright, lasting flavors of citrus, rose petal, and cherry.

  • Hess Allomi Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, 2007

Ripe flavors of cherries, plum, and currant mingle with hints of nutmeg and a slight toasty-oak component. Silky tannins and a rich texture continue on to a lingering finish. Accessible now, this will age well for 6 to 8 years.

  • Hess Collection Mount Veeder 19 Block Cuvee, 2007

Aromas of plum and black currant intermingled with caramel and molasses; The silky entry melts into an ultra-rich core of dark fruit. A supple finish is testament to this wine's immediate approachability.

  • Hess Collection Mount Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon, 2006

Complex and alluring flavors of wild mountain blackberry, black cherry, currant, and sweet molasses, accented by underlying flavors of graphite and cedar box

The Hess Collection Winery was founded on Donald Hess’ belief that great wines come from vineyards of distinction. Similarly, when Donald Hess began collecting art in 1966, his collecting style was driven by a passion rather than monetary investment or current trends. He develops a close dialogue with an artist to better understand what drives him or her to create, much as his vineyards have taught him what is best for his vines. His collection is not ‘stuffy’ – it will entertain! The wines will surpass.

The Hess Collection Winery is best known for its flagship Mount Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon, acclaimed for its complexity, structure and elegance. The winery also produces single-vineyard designated wines from two additional Napa Valley estates. It is a leader in sustainable and organic practices. The Hess Collection adheres to founder Donald Hess’ philosophy: “Nurture the land; return what you take.”

The historic winery has earned international recognition for its wine, culinary and visitor programs and provides free public access to Donald Hess’ extensive private Contemporary Art Collection.

Please plan to join the PWS on Thursday, June 16, 2011 at the Harrisburg Hilton and Towers, beginning at 7:00 p.m. We will have the opportunity to enjoy delicious wines from the Hess Collection portfolio while learning a little about the art collection along the way. Our speaker for the evening will be John Amoroso, Mid-Atlantic Regional Sales Manager for The Hess Collection Winery.
