Weygandt Wines
by Averill SheppsPeter Weygandt is one of the most respected importers in the United States. Robert Parker has called his taste buds “impeccable”. I regard his wines so highly that I seek them out when I travel, and I have never been disappointed. We have had him as a presenter for tastings twice in our 23-year history, much to the delight of those who attended. Now Peter has taken a further step in his career, he has opened a store in Washington, DC, calling it Weygandt Wines.
Not only are we are fortunate to be able to have him in Harrisburg once again, but he will be doing a trade tasting. That means he will be presenting about 18 wines from his portfolio, the type of tasting that is normally done for those in the wine trade. (Naturally, the pours will be smaller than the usual 2 oz.) We will thereby get an overview of the wines he imports which will allow us to choose our favorites from the selection. Believe me, it will be very difficult to pick just one; you will have many!
So plan to join us on Thursday, November 11th at 7 p.m. at the Harrisburg Hilton. Since it is a holiday in observance of Veterans Day, it may be easier for you to attend. Put the date on your calendar and sign up early so that you are sure you won't miss this unique and outstanding tasting.
10/9/2010 updateby Averill Shepps
As I have been telling you, this is going to be a very different event. It will be set up as a “Trade Tasting” with 18 wines set at 3 separate pouring stations where Peter Weygandt, his partner Todd Ross, and a member of their staff will be pouring the wines for you and talking with you one on one about what you are tasting. You will have a chance to interact directly with each of them in turn, and you will be sampling 18 different wines. We will also set up tables where you can take a break and enjoy some bread and cheese. Because it is a stand-up tasting, you will have more chance to interact with each other as well as with our experts.
Best of all will be the wines themselves. I have never had a poor wine imported by Peter Weygandt. I can't recall even a mediocre one. His choices are often rated very highly by wine critics and by Robert Parker's Wine Advocate. That alone should bring you to this event. And—none of them are expensive; these are wines you can afford to buy. Win-win-win and win!! Thursday, November 11th, 7 p.m. at the Hilton Harrisburg. Be there!

We are so lucky to have them here in Harrisburg, and I am so grateful for their store in D.C.
